A New Chapter for Rawice: Our Very Own Filaments

If you’ve been following Rawice Creations for a while, you’ll know one thing about us... we’re never satisfied with “good enough.”

Over the past few years, the market has become flooded with 3D-printed hidden blade replicas. Many of them look similar, use the same off-the-shelf materials, and frankly… feel the same. We knew that if Rawice was going to continue pushing forward, we needed to do something different, something purpose-driven and intentional.

That’s where our custom-specified Rawice filaments come in.

Why We Sourced Our Own Filaments

The goal was simple:
Make our 3D-printed parts look and feel more realistic and premium, despite being made using FDM 3D printing.

We tested a wide range of manufacturers, materials, and sample filaments before finding one that could deliver exactly what we were looking for. This allowed us to source filaments with the specific colors, finishes, and performance characteristics we wanted exclusively for our hidden blades and products.

It’s also important to be transparent. FDM 3D printing will always have certain limitations. Things like layer lines, seams, and minor surface imperfections are a normal part of the process and can’t be completely eliminated. What these filaments allow us to do is make the absolute best of FDM printing, enhancing depth, sheen, and overall realism far beyond what standard filaments typically offer.

What Sets These Filaments Apart

These aren’t just standard filaments with different colours. They’ve been selected and refined specifically for Rawice products, offering:

- Exceptional print quality for cleaner, more consistent parts

- Improved metallic appearance that more closely resembles real metal

- Better shine and depth without looking plasticky

- Richer, more realistic colours and finishes suited to blade components

The end result is parts that look noticeably more premium and far closer to metal than typical off-the-shelf alternatives.

Standing Apart From the Copycats

Let’s be honest, there are a lot of 3D-printed hidden blade copycats entering the market. Most rely on the same readily available filaments anyone can purchase.

By taking the time to test, source, and specify our own materials, we’re doing something many others aren’t:
Actively controlling the visual quality of our products at the material level.

It’s another way Rawice blades remain instantly recognisable and continue to stand apart from the rest.

What This Means for Current & Future Products

This transition won’t happen overnight. As we work through existing stock and previous filament supplies, you may still see some parts made using our earlier materials.

Over time, our goal is to transition around 80–90% of our products to be produced using these Rawice-specified filaments. Some products will still require other trusted brand materials, but the long-term direction is clear:

Rawice blades, built with materials chosen specifically for Rawice.

Always Improving, Always Listening

This change exists because of customer feedback and our constant drive to improve. We’re always testing, refining, and asking how we can push things further, not just mechanically, but visually and aesthetically as well.

Innovation doesn’t always mean reinventing the mechanism. Sometimes it’s about refining the fundamentals... and this is a big one.

We’re incredibly excited about what this means for future releases and can’t wait for you to experience the difference firsthand.

As always, thank you for being part of the Rawice journey!
